The beaches in Nevis are the kinds you see in the fancy travel magazines; luxurious, clear water, tropical… ahhhh.
Here are the top 5 must-see beaches that I recommend:
Nesbit Beach: This beach was right outside from our private villa and a cool resort, which had awesome snorkeling, beautiful water, and amazing tropical fish to spend hours looking at. They have created some artificial reefs that are coming along nicely and drawing more fish.

Lovers Beach: It has exceptionally beautiful sand (seriously dark swirled with white) and is popular for its remote location and warm waters. It is also the place where my brother got a severe burn on his back, so be sure to load the sunscreen on! It is also kind of hard to get to; we had to walk through some disgusting high tide muck that smelled like goat poo to get there. Luckily, it was worth it. You can also park just West of the tiny airport and walk down from there to avoid the muck. Great views of St. Kitts.

Herbert’s Beach: Just 15 minutes walking distance down from Nesbit Beach, we enjoyed the awesome sand and water at this beach also. You pass a spooky old, abandoned beach bar. There was also a pole sticking out above the water, and my sister and I competed to see who could make it to the end without falling off into the water. I could’ve done this for hours, but my parents had to call it quits sometime…
Paradise Beach: We did a cool horseback ride through Nelson Springs and along the water. We knew we had to come back to Paradise–a local favorite. It gentle waves, completely clear, blue water and amazingly soft sand.
.
New River Beach: This beach has no sand, but is completely created of rocks and boulders! Climbing around on the beach is very fun, finding interesting things from a beautiful shell, to an old tennis shoe. Yes, an old shoe! This beach is not really for swimming, but for watching the fantastic big waves crash against the rocks. Plus, you will probably find some cool shells and things there! We found a shampoo bottle from a Russian ship.
OTHER FUN STOPS:
- You cannot miss the New River sugar mill ruins above the beach. Nevis was once a big sugar producer (used in rum too; think Pirates of the Carribbean). Very cool to see the building ruins of what was once a huge industry, and now is abandoned. You can climb all over the cone shaped mill and the other buildings. There is giant, rusting machinery out to see too. And we had a standoff with a pack of wild donkeys! We just drove down the savannah-like land to check out the beach; you can walk too (but we were scared of the donkeys—see the above pic)
- Also check out Sunshine’s, a local beach bar that is famous for beautiful beach sunsets and the Killer Bee drink. If you are under 21, like me, then you can also get a virgin Baby Bee, so you don’t feel left out, but still is a tropical concoction of yumminess!
